Goldschmidt 2016 session on geothermal of the future and the past: geochemistry in supercritical conditions and new techniques to reveal old fluid histories
June 30, 2016
My colleagues Isabelle Chambefort, Noriyoshi Tsuchiya, Greg Bignall, Dana Thomas, Esther Schwarzenbach, and I convened a session at the 26th Annual Goldschmidt Conference. Our session featured presentations ranging from field and laboratory studies of supercritical water and geothermal systems to those that described temporal variability of hydrothermal systems over short to long timescales.

My colleagues Thibaut Barreyre, Jean-Arthur Olive, Maria Pachiadaki and I convened a session on deep-sea hydrothermal processes (Session #8474) at the 2015 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting. The overarching theme was to "follow the fluids" through the oceanic crust from the bottom up. We highlighted presenters hailing from a variety of disciplines, from geophysical controls on fluid flow, to constraints on ore deposit formation, to influences of underlying volcanic activity on fluid geochemistry, and microbiological studies of energetics at redox boundaries.
